So I had this joke all ready to go about how the Tecolotes de Nuevo Laredo (Owls of New Laredo) used to be known as the Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos (Owls of the Two Laredos), and how sad it must be to lose one of your two laredos. But while I was mulling over the exact wording, I read a little further and discovered that it was another incarnation of the Tecolotes that had that name. Those Tecolotes moved to Tijuana, and this team came along a few years later. Damn. So much for that joke. Yes, it was a juvenile joke, but we all appreciate juvenile jokes now and then. We could all use a good snicker from time to time, right?

If you still need another snicker¹, take a look at the logo. There aren't any innuendoes to be found, but the sheer ineptness of it should be good for a chuckle or two. First, the whole thing just looks poorly drawn. But beyond general ineptness, there are some specific things that stand out. Here's a brief rundown:

The bat is way too long (by my estimate it is twice as long as the batter's arms).
He has no mouth. You can see the top and bottom of his beak, but they are separated by some distance and there's no mouth between them.
His chest and stomach form a perfect arc.
Even if one assumes a certain amount of (poorly executed) foreshortening, the left foot must be longer than his calf. There shouldn't be any foreshortening on his right foot, and it appears to be as long as his entire leg.
We see the side of his right shoe but the bottom of his left shoe. That requires either a truly bizarre batting stance, or a left leg which is bent unnaturally at the knee.
Speaking of unnatural bending, check out his right foot. Sure, it's possible for your toes to be on the ground and your ankle bent at that angle, but in that case the bend should occur much closer to the toes than it does here.
The "TNL" on the jersey destroys any illusion of depth, making everything look completely flat.
The letters in the name are different heights (this is particularly noticeable in the word "DE"), and neither the tops nor the bottoms of the latters form a smooth arc as you would expect in a word written around a circle.
The shadow effect on the words is quite odd when paired with the five stars that lack a shadow effect.

Simply put, this may be the most poorly-drawn logo in all of minor league baseball. I haven't inspected all of them closely enough to say that with certainty (yet), but the possibility exists. I feel sorry for the players who have to wear this logo. I'm sure they've done nothing to deserve it. And yet, in spite of this, they go out on the field night after night and proudly play for a team that makes them wear this.

That, my friend, takes dos laredos grandes.

¹Just that phrase is making me snicker. I really need to grow up.
