Last season the Flint Generals unveiled the logo you see at the right as their new logo. I spent much of my review of this logo explaining how the logo could serve as a metaphor for the American automobile industry's woes. The team said that the logo was a "modernization" of their previous logo, when in fact it was nothing more than the amalgamation of the previous logo (itself over forty years old) and another logo from thirty years ago, with the primary change being the incorporation of stone age technology. I suggested that perhaps people in Michigan did not truly understand the concept of modernity, and also hinted that the wholesale inclusion of the old logo in the new hinted at an inability to make a firm decision and stick with it.

So what did they do after but a single year? They went back to the previous logo. Well, they sure showed me! Clearly they understand what modernity and decision-making are all about. I'm hesitant to even post a review, because I just expect them to go back to the arrowhead logo next season.

So this is now the third time this logo has been used by a team called the Flint Generals. Is the third time the charm? No. It is not. It still has all the problems it had before. It still lacks any reference to generals. It still has the pointless wheel in the logo.* It still has the stupid hockey stick in the logo. It still, in short, sucks. I said when I previously reviewed this logo back in 2004 that if you pitted the current logo in a sucking contest against a vacuum cleaner, a two-dollar whore, and Ross Perot doing a NAFTA imitation, the logo would win before the whore even had time to check her lipstick. I'm not revising that statement, except maybe perhaps to pull out the severely dated reference to NAFTA.

It's this simple: "Generals" is one of those classic names, and you can make so many great logos for it. So why haven't they?

*Please don't waste my time e-mailing me to say that it's relevant because the name "Generals" comes from General Motors. I know this. I don't care, because the team is called the Generals, not the Motors. Once you've chosen to name your team the Generals, regardless of the reason, you should be putting military references in your logo, not industrial references.

Final Score: 29 points.
Penalties: Irrelevance, 14 pts; Name-Logo, 2 pts; Equip-Logo (egregious), 8 pts; Yucky-Logo, 5 pts.
Bonuses: None.
