Posted 2006 February 21 Admit it: When you think of Las Vegas, the Old West is one of the last images that come to mind. You may think about gamblnig. You may think about prostitution. If you have particularly bad taste in music then you may think about Celine Dion. If you have good taste in network television (that's not quite an oxymoron, though it does come close) then you may think about CSI. But it's quite likely you don't think about cowboys. In fact, if you go to the official Las Vegas website and check out its history page, you don't see much to indicate cowboys ever had much to do with the town. It was originally a railroad town, then a farming community, and then of course it turned into a gambilng town. So calling a team situated there the Wranglers is more marketing than history. Then again, if they had decided to name the team after something people do associate the town with, they might have wound up calling it the Las Vegas Ice Hookers. The lesson here is that sometimes marketing is better than history. And speaking of hookers... I have no doubt that the intent of the logo is that Mr. Cowboy is supposed to be bull riding. Uh-uh. Notice how the top of the bull is just barely below the cowboy's armpits. From the looks of it, the part of the cowboy that would sit on the bull is about at the same level as the equivalent part of the bull. And with the man positioned approximately behind the bull, it looks like... Oh, dear! Okay, maybe he is riding the bull, if you catch my drift. And I don't even want to think about what he's using the hockey stick for.
Final Score: 12 points.
