Aw, man. They're not even trying, are they? A boring name-in-baseball-script slapped on top of a BIC. They basically took the two most boring concepts for a logo and combined them. Yaaaaawn. I'd really like to end the season with a strong review, but I've been given very little to work with here.

From what I found looking at older logos, the team has never had a particularly good logo. If it wasn't one of the components of the current logo, it was either a fraktur "B" or an old-timey baseball player with a handlebar moustache. I know there are limits to what you can do with a name like "Barons", but you can still do better than this. The obvious thing to do would be to draw a baron. So draw someone with formal 18th-19th century formal dress, complete with epaulets and/or a ceremonial sash. Or maybe just a formal suit with a top hat. You get the idea: something to indicate a member of the aristocracy. If you want to have a cheesy logo, you just throw some combination of sash, epaulets, and top hat on a baseball player. No, I don't recommend cheesy logos as a general rule, but it would still be an improvement.

Or you could play off the whole "red baron" thing and draw an aviator, or maybe a biplane. Or how about some voodoo references à la Baron Samedi? That would work better for a team in New Orleans than in Birmingham, but there is a hoodoo tradition in Alabama so it's not completely ridiculous.

I could try to think of more possibilities, but frankly, I already feel like I've put more effort into this than the person who actually drew and designed the logo, and that just feels wrong. So I'm just going to call it a year.
