Is there a better name in all of sports than this? Perhaps, but this is
definitely one of the best.
For those of you who aren't familiar with the jackalope, you can learn
about it on the official Wyoming Game and Fish Department
website. Go read that page before continuing if
you're unfamiliar with Jackalopes. Seriously, read that page before you
read the rest of this review if you're unfamiliar with Jackalopes. And
even if you are, you should still check that page out.
Have you read it now? Do you feel educated? Good.
That page does make me realize one slight problem with the team's name,
which is that apparently the plural of jackalope is
jackalope, not jackalopes. After all, the official
Wyoming Game and Fish Department says so, and since the jackalope is
believed to have first evolved in Wyoming, they should know. But I
won't hold this against the team. I'm sure it's just a regional dialect
thing.
That said, I have to say that the logo is a bit much. It's very busy,
with lots of colors that don't necessarily contrast well at a distance.
The Old West directional sign seems a weird way of including the city
name. The handlebar moustache makes the jackalope look like it's one
quarter walrus on its dad's side.
But still, how do you argue with a name like Jackalopes? You
don't. It's that simple.
